Tuition increases and budget cuts flood the minds of students as the deadline for FAFSA approaches, but the current economic situation does not seem to have major effects on Franklin College. While budget cuts of 6 percent or more are expected at public universities in Indiana, and other private universities across the nation are cutting scholarships, Franklin is doing as well as can be expected.

The graduating class of 2010 will have paid $105,644 in tuition and fees over four years at Marquette. If graduates borrowed federal loans, they’ll have a six to nine month grace period before they must begin repayment. If they’ve borrowed private loans, they may have to start paying them back immediately. As soon as graduates have their diplomas in hand, they enter the real world — in the red. .

When it came time to hire a new provost, UNC did everything by the book. But when another search begins, administrators might need to find a new approach to solve the hiring equation. Search firms are drawing from a narrow pool of people, limiting the diversity and range of candidates available to universities for consideration. The last three expensive search processes all ended with UNC hiring from within its ranks.

On April 1, the State Board of Regents approved new tuition rates for the 2010-11 school year. The regents approved a 6 percent increase of $201 extra per year at WSU for a resident undergraduate student. The regents also approved a 3 percent increase in student fees that will go into effect beginning May 3 for summer semester.

Recent cuts to the athletic department at Point Loma Nazarene University were an effort to comply with an investigation by the Office for Civil Rights following a grievance filed against PLNU regarding Title IX compliance.

T.C. Jones is one of about five registered students on the Virginia Tech campus in a wheelchair, but one of hundreds with a disability. The university is tasked with reasonably accommodating students with disabilities, and while those who use the campus disability services have called them helpful, only a handful of students in a wheelchair are currently at Tech.
