Recent cuts to the athletic department at Point Loma Nazarene University were an effort to comply with an investigation by the Office for Civil Rights following a grievance filed against PLNU regarding Title IX compliance.

The cuts will free up about $150,000 in operating expenses, but the athletic department said it does not know how it will distribute the funds. The grievance, filed March 19, 2009, was obtained by the Point Weekly under the Freedom of Information Act.
