By Hailey Konnath, edited by Kiah Haslett

Haslett looked up the federal student loan default rate (called the cohort default rate) for the University of Nebraska Lincoln and found it was extremely low (less than 2 or 5 percent). Konnath did discover, however, that the window for defaults is changing. While the change won't affect UNL since the rate of default is low, it may hurt some schools that are on the brink of unacceptably high defaults.

Haslett used information passed over the Campus Coverage Project listserv to find where UNL ranked, and she got information about high-ranking schools from her scholarship and financial aid director and the Department of Education.
